Ad Tracker Quick Start User Guide

Thank you for using our Ad Tracking and Marketing Analysis Software. We hope this can help enhance your internet marketing efforts and enable you to efficiently manage your advertising costs.

Getting Started

Account Login
Once you receive your account login and password, you can now login and create your ad trackers. The internet address to login to your account is:

http://www.ad-trackers.com/member/index.php

Once you’ve arrived at the site, enter your username and password in the Ad Tracker’s Login prompt.

*If you’ve forgotten your password or may have misplaced it, you can easily get it back just by clicking the Retrieve password link. Type in your account login and it will automatically email you your password.

Once logged in, you’ll be able to see all your ad trackers and split-runs. If you’re a new user, both of these tables will be empty as you haven't added any ad trackers yet.

This main statistics page is where your ad tracker results will be displayed. It is separated into two sections: Ad Trackers and Split-Run Tests. These will display the statistics from each of your ad campaigns.

Here’s the rundown of each of the columns for both sections:

• Ad Title – A short description of your ad
• Raw – This reflects the raw number of clicks to your ad, including multiple clicks from the same person/address
• Unique – This reflects the unique clicks from each person/address
• PPC – If your ad is a pay-per-click ad, this will say “Y” for yes. Otherwise, it will remain empty
• Ad Cost – The cost of your ad, if any.
• Product Cost – The cost of the product/service you’re selling, if any
• # Of Sales – The total number of sales you’ve generated for your ad.
• CPC – This is a calculation of how much each click to your ad will cost you.
• Gross Sales – This will reflect in $ dollar amounts, how much money you’ve made from your ad.
• ROI% - Your Return-On-Investment percentage from your ad.
• Reset – Resets your stats for that ad.

Ad Trackers and Split-Runs

What’s the difference between an ad tracker and a split-run ad tracker?

Ad trackers are normal tracking links that will only track a single entity. That is, it will only track one instance of your URL, ad, or Pay-Per-Click ad. This is what you would normally use just to track any of your desired links or ads. This means, one ad tracker URL points to one web page, ad, etc.

On the other hand, a split-run ad tracker is used to track up to 3 different addresses using one single ad tracker link. For instance, let’s say you wanted to test 3 different versions of your ad, just to see which one has the best response. You would create a split-run ad tracker to test each one using only one ad tracking URL. The software automatically rotates your ad each time it is clicked to test all three versions. Pretty neat, huh? Once you’ve found which ad performs best, then you can easily create a new instance of a regular ad tracker to track all that ad’s clicks in the future.

Creating a new Ad Tracker

Creating a new ad tracker is easy. Just click on the Add/Manage Trackers link on the top menu bar and you’ll be presented with the following screen:

Fill in the form to create your new ad:

• URL Title – a short title for your ad (up to 12 characters)
• URL – the URL address of the web page you are tracking
• Notes – Use this field to describe your ad in detail
• Ad Cost – If you paid for your ad, fill in the cost here
• Product Cost – If your ad is going to be used to sell a product/service, type in the cost here
• PPC – If your ad is a pay-per-click ad that you’ve set up on a PPC search engine, click this checkbox. (Make sure to change your ad cost to reflect the per-click charge you’re paying, for example 0.95 cents per click)
• To Have the stats e-mailed – If you would like your stats emailed to your email address, select an option here.
• Check this link – Checking this box will enable the software to check that the URL you’ve entered in the URL field is a valid internet address.

Once you’re done, click Add.

Create a Split-Run Test Ad

To create a new split-run test ad, click on Add/Manage Split Runs link on the top menu bar. This will lead you to a similar looking page as the “add new ad tracker” screen. The one main difference is the option to add up to three different URLs.

Fill in the form to create your new ad:

• URL Title – a short title for your ad (up to 12 characters)
• URL #1 – the first URL of the web page you are tracking
• URL #2 – the second URL of the web page you are tracking
• URL #3 – the third URL of the web page you are tracking

*Quick Note - If you want to test only 2 ads, that's perfectly fine. Just leave the third URL box empty.

Editing Ad Trackers

Changing the details on your ad tracker is fairly simple as well. To do so, click on Add/Manage Trackers or Add/Manage Split-Runs then scroll down to the Edit URL section and select the ad you would like to edit.

Deleting Ad Trackers

To delete your ads, just click on the Add/Manage Trackers or Add/Manage Split-Runs, scroll down to the Remove URL from database section, select the ad you want removed, and click Remove.
Using your new ad tracker URLs

Now that you’ve created some ad trackers, let’s go ahead and start using them. First, your unique URL will look something like this:

http://www.ad-trackers.com/go?id=33

Each of these URLs is completely unique and will track only the ad that you’ve created.

You can get your ad codes quickly by clicking on Add/Manage Trackers and scrolling down to the Get code for Tracking URL section near the bottom of the page. Select your ad from the drop-down box and click Get it, and you’re set to go.

Ad Tracker Uses

Once you start advertising your ad, and people start responding to it by clicking your ad tracking link, our software will automatically log each of their visits and transparently redirect them to the web URL that you’ve specified for that ad code. This all happens behind-the-scenes without your visitors noticing anything.

Now you can plug in your ad tracker URL everywhere you can so you can start tracking your ad! Use it to track any of the following:

• Email ads
• Pay per click ads
• HTML emails (through image tag integration)
• Web pages
• Action Tracking (through image tag integration)
• Anything else you can think of!

Image Tag Integration

The image tag integration option can be easily used to track a variety of things other than just responses. You can also track user activity, email effectiveness, and sales. With this in mind, all you would have to do is copy a small line of code into your selected web page or HTML email and start tracking.

Here’s a sample code that you would integrate into your confirmation page:

<img src=”http://www.ad-trackers.com/go?id=33” BORDER="0" HEIGHT="1" WIDTH="1" ALT="">

That’s it! Just replace the red link with your ad tracker URL and start tracking your web pages. Use it to start tracking user activity such as filling out a survey, ezine subscriptions, software downloads, html email, etc. Just cut and paste right into your webpage!

*Quick note - if you have a mailing list in which you use html email to send your messages, this is a good way to track how often your emails are actually opened and read, and not just filtered out by any SPAM or ISP filters.

Tracking Website Sales

Another great feature you can use besides tracking responses and actions is tracking your sales. In the same way as we’ve described in the Image Tag Integration section, you can cut and paste the following code right into the “thank you” or confirmation page that appears on a customer’s screen after a sale has been made. Ad tracker will automatically track the sale for you.

Here’s a sample of the code you would cut and paste into your “thank you” page:

<img src="http://www.ad-trackers.com/go/sale.php?id=userid" BORDER="0" HEIGHT="1" WIDTH="1" ALT="">

Just replace the userid field with yours and you’re set to go!
